“Those who didn’t vote also did this” — Rihanna blames voter apathy for Trump’s victory

Singer Rihanna has blamed voter apathy for Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 United States presidential election, arguing that Americans who chose not to vote also contributed to his return to the White House.

Trump defeated Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the November 2024 election, securing a second term after losing his re-election bid to Joe Biden in 2020.

Rihanna made the remark while reacting to a viral Instagram clip from a recent conversation involving journalist Charles M. Blow and former MSNBC host Joy Reid, during which Reid argued that Americans who voted for Trump deserved the financial controversies surrounding his administration.

Responding to the clip, the singer said those who stayed away from the polls also bore responsibility for the election outcome and the economic challenges associated with Trump’s administration.

“Believe it or not, those who didn’t vote at all also did this!” Rihanna wrote.

The singer’s comments have added to ongoing discussions about voter participation and the role of non-voters in determining election outcomes.

Although Rihanna resides in the United States, she is not an American citizen and is therefore ineligible to vote in US federal elections.
