Speaking during an interview on the Nancy Isime Show on Monday, the singer said his fear of poverty stems from the difficult circumstances his family experienced while growing up.
Peter said, “I’m not afraid of death. The only thing I’m afraid of in this life is poverty. It is being broke.”
Recounting his childhood experience, he said his family once lived in a one-bedroom apartment with his parents and eight children.
He explained that the family had to divide the room with a curtain to create some privacy, before the compound was eventually sold by the landlord.
According to Peter, the family pleaded for more time to vacate the property, but a bulldozer eventually arrived and demolished their home while they were still living there.
He said, “We were living in a one-bedroom flat with me, my mom, my father, like the whole family. Six boys and two girls live in a one-bedroom apartment.”
Peter added, “They have to divide the room with a curtain. So, the landlord has sold the compound and we’re trying to plead to give us some time. The next thing, we were at home, then a bulldozer came and demolished it. We have tasted poverty before.”
The singer said the experience shaped his outlook on life and remains the reason he considers being broke his greatest fear.
