FMC Nguru medical director loses twin daughters within two days

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru, Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, has lost her twin daughters within two days.

Her daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi, a medical doctor, and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, a pharmacist, died on Friday, October 2, and Sunday, October 4, 2026, respectively, following complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Hadiyah reportedly died on Friday after spending about a week at FMC Nguru, where she was receiving treatment following a sickle cell crisis.

Her twin sister, Aidah, was also receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period but reportedly recovered and was discharged.

Hadiyah was buried on Friday following funeral prayers held at the Emir’s Palace.

Two days later, Aidah reportedly visited her twin sister’s grave. She allegedly fainted shortly after the visit and was rushed to hospital, where she later died.

FMC Nguru confirmed Aidah’s death in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as “the second twin” of Professor Usman.

Professor Usman is a Professor of Gynaecological Oncology and Reproductive Health and was the first female Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist produced by the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

She was promoted to the rank of professor in 2018 after years of clinical and academic service.

In November 2022, she became the fourth Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMC Nguru and the first woman to occupy the position at the medical centre.
