‘I didn’t know we had money until I was 21’ — Davido’s sister Sharon

Davido’s elder sister, Sharon Adeleke, has revealed that she grew up living a relatively normal life despite her family’s wealth, adding that she only realised they had money when she moved to Nigeria at the age of 21.

Speaking during an interview with Janice, Sharon said her father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, ensured that his children understood the value of hard work and did not grow up spending extravagantly.

She explained that she had always worked, even while in high school, when she cleaned changing rooms to earn £5 a week. She also worked as a professional babysitter for several years while in college.

According to Sharon, her father provided the family with a comfortable lifestyle but did not allow his children to spend without limits.

She recalled that their family holidays included trips to Disney and cruises, but the experiences were ordinary compared with the VIP treatment she now gives her own children.

“ You know, I didn’t even know we had money till I was like 21, to be honest with you. That’s when I moved to Nigeria,” she said.

Sharon added that she believes she could have become an even better businessperson if she had been exposed to more financial challenges, arguing that having too much money can sometimes make people less motivated to do things themselves.

“I think I would have been a better businessperson, but that doesn’t mean I’m not learning,” she said.

She also noted that her father’s approach to raising his children shaped her attitude towards work, adding that she sees herself as being much like him in that regard.
