‘I’m Supporting Him Because He’s Igbo’ — Speed Darlington Declares Support for Peter Obi in 2027

Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has declared his intention to support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, stating that his decision is based strictly on tribal affiliation rather than the former Anambra State governor's intelligence.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, the singer said he would support Obi because they share the same Igbo ethnic background.

He wrote: “I am going to support Peter Obi for president. Not because I see or hear the intelligence coming out of his mouth. I am supporting Peter Obi strictly because of tribe, because he is Igbo.”

Speed Darlington also questioned the political records of other potential presidential contenders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, asking what they had accomplished despite their years in public office.

Expressing reservations about the prospect of another Fulani president, he wrote: “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. Atiku and Amaechi have been statesmen for years, what did they accomplish? Who even wants a Fulani president?”

The singer further criticised Nigerian politicians for continuing to use road infrastructure as a campaign talking point, describing it as embarrassing that such promises remain prominent in 2026.

He wrote: “Shame on all Nigerian politicians for still using road to campaign. It’s a big shame in 2026.”
