Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has sparked debate among football fans after naming Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha as the greatest footballer of all time, choosing him ahead of global icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking during an interview with ESPN, the Afrobeats star was asked to make his picks across several football categories and consistently placed Okocha at the top.
When asked to name the best playmaker, Burna Boy replied:
"Best playmaker is Jay-Jay Okocha."
He also selected the former Super Eagles captain as the greatest African footballer of all time before doubling down when asked to name the greatest player in football history.
"I'll say Jay-Jay Okocha. See, it's between him and like, like who else? Pelé. I'm not doing that Ronaldo and Messi stuff," he said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Burna Boy picked Harry Kane as the greatest striker, named Lamine Yamal as the best young player, and gave a special mention to Kobbie Mainoo because of his loyalty to Manchester United.
The singer also described Manchester United as his favourite football club and named Mainoo as his favourite player at the club.
When asked which sporting event he would most love to perform at, Burna Boy gave a straightforward answer:
"FIFA World Cup."
