Delta Gov's aide blames Favour Agbor's parents over daughter's de@th, vows to pursue justice

An aide to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has blamed the parents of late Favour Agbor for allegedly failing to take the necessary steps after she told them she had been raped by content creator Odogwu Asaba.

In a Facebook post, the governor's aide said Favour's parents should have immediately ensured she received medical attention, reported the incident to the police and sought counselling for her instead of handling the matter privately.

According to him, Favour revealed in a video recorded before her death that she informed her mother about the alleged rape, but was only sent transport fare to return to Warri.

"The fact is that her parents failed her seriously," he wrote.

Ovie argued that Favour's mother should have instructed her to report to the nearest police station while making arrangements to meet her in Asaba, rather than simply asking her to return home.

He also stressed that victims of sexual assault should never be blamed, adding that the priority should always be medical treatment, proper documentation, police reporting and emotional support.

"As parents and guardians, our first responsibility is to protect our children. In cases of assault, the immediate steps should be: medical attention, police report, and counseling. Silence or handling it privately only denies the victim justice and healing."

Describing the incident as a painful lesson, Ovie vowed to personally follow up on the case to ensure Favour's family gets justice.

He further insisted that Odogwu Asaba, who has been arrested and is currently in police custody over the allegation, should not be granted freedom if found culpable.
