In a post shared on X, the pastor stressed that there is a clear difference between keeping a relationship private and hiding it completely.
According to him, while there is no need to publicise every relationship, serious partners should ensure that trusted people in their lives are aware of it.
"Some of you want to date in secret and marry in public, you might suffer in silence," he wrote.
Okonkwo explained that family members, mentors and other trusted individuals should know about a relationship so they can offer guidance and hold both partners accountable.
"There's a huge difference between a relationship being private and it being secret. The whole world might not need to know but if he/she is serious with you, important people should know, especially people that can hold both of you accountable or give counsel."
He added that seeking advice from experienced people before starting a relationship can help prevent avoidable mistakes and unhealthy situations.
"In fact, the best time to talk to wiser people is before you even start the relationship so you don't get into dangerous situations."
The pastor concluded with a caution to singles:
"Don't let them keep you secret... it's usually a bad sign."
