Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has advised Nigerian women to stop taking relationship advice from people whose marriages have failed, insisting that love and marriage are not scams when they are built on genuine affection and sincerity.
Speaking during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, the actor said the real problem is not marriage itself but individuals who enter relationships with hidden financial motives.
According to him, relationships become fraudulent when one partner sees the other as nothing more than a source of financial support.
"Love and marriage no be scam, but e get people wey dey hungry wey dey use relationship as meal ticket. Dat na where e become scam," he said.
Emeka described genuine love as something beautiful, stressing that successful relationships should be founded on honesty, trust and commitment rather than greed or personal gain.
He also criticised what he described as the growing trend of some women pursuing relationships mainly for financial benefits from wealthy men.
"Relationship suppose to dey sacred. Love na di foundation and pillar of every good relationship," he added.
The veteran actor urged Nigerians to stop pretending to be in love while pursuing selfish interests, noting that lasting relationships require patience, understanding and a willingness for both partners to support each other through difficult times.
Addressing women directly, Emeka warned against allowing social media to influence their marriages.
"Make Nigeria girls cool down, no dey listen to those women wey their marriage don scatter o, na dem full online. No take that one go meet your husband for house."
He maintained that every relationship is unique and encouraged couples to focus on resolving their own challenges instead of comparing their marriages with others or blindly following opinions shared online.
