In a statement released by the family, they said Bart voluntarily sat for multiple interviews, answered every question from investigators, and gave a full account of his activities on July 4.
According to the statement, he also allowed authorities to examine his phone, handed over requested photos and videos, and permitted inspections of his boat and GPS device without requesting a lawyer, requiring search warrants, or showing any hesitation.
The family added that Bart personally compiled a list of potential witnesses, including passengers on his boat. They claim more than 20 people aboard two different vessels witnessed him assisting another boat that was taking on water near Horn Island.
They said Bart boarded the distressed vessel, removed its transom plug, and briefly towed it to help drain the accumulated water before continuing on his way.
The Edmiston family stressed that Bart has never been named as a suspect in Nolan Wells' death and firmly denied allegations that he killed Nolan, witnessed his death, or helped cover up any crime.
As online speculation continues, the family revealed that Bart has retained attorney Russell Latino and is facing increasing threats and harassment.
They also alleged that Bart has been doxxed, claiming an online user published photos of their home, home address, land records, and employment details. According to the statement, a cease-and-desist letter and an evidence preservation notice are being issued to the individual involved.
The family further disclosed that they are working with the FBI, the Mississippi Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and local law enforcement to investigate whether cyberstalking laws were violated and to address threats made against Bart's life.
