An investigation is underway following the death of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells, whose body was recovered days after he disappeared during a July Fourth beach outing with friends along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
According to officials, the group returned from the trip without him, prompting concern when he failed to come home.

His family reported him missing, triggering a large-scale search involving the U.S. Coast Guard, local law enforcement agencies and volunteer rescue teams. Search crews combed the waters and surrounding areas for several days before a body matching Wells' description was recovered near Horn Island on Monday.
Authorities later confirmed through DNA testing that the body was Nolan's. His family has since been notified, while investigators continue working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death. Officials have not yet released an official cause or manner of death.
Nolan's parents later sat down for an emotional interview with NBC News, where they spoke about the devastating moment they learned their son had gone missing and shared memories of the young athlete they described as full of life and promise.
As the investigation continues, attention has shifted to the group of friends who were with Nolan before he disappeared.
According to reports circulating online, the friends have since deactivated their social media accounts and declined to speak with investigators after allegedly receiving legal advice from one of their parents, who is said to be a senior attorney and judge. The reports claim the group has repeatedly told investigators only, "We don't remember anything."
However, law enforcement authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims or stated whether the friends are considered suspects or persons of interest in the investigation.
Investigators are continuing to examine the events leading up to Nolan's disappearance, including what happened during the beach trip and the circumstances that resulted in his death.
The case has drawn widespread public attention, with many calling for a thorough investigation to establish exactly what happened to the 18-year-old before he was found dead in the water.
