I thought it was normal... — A 17-year-old narrates how she was constantly s3xually violated by dad

Nigerian doctor and child advocate, Doctor Chichi, has shared a heartbreaking message she reportedly received from a 17-year-old girl, shedding light on the devastating reality of child sexual abuse and the importance of creating safe spaces for survivors to speak out.

According to the screenshots shared by the doctor, the teenager said the abuse allegedly began when she was just 13 years old.

She explained that because the abuse involved someone she trusted, she grew up believing it was normal and remained silent for years.

The girl revealed that it wasn't until she attended a child protection seminar organised by Doctor Chichi at her school that she realised what had happened to her was abuse. The awareness session gave her the courage to reach out and ask for help.

Sharing the anonymous message, Doctor Chichi expressed deep concern over the growing prevalence of child abuse in Nigeria and stressed the urgent need for stronger awareness, education, and child protection measures.

"The rate of different forms of child abuse in this country is alarming, and something serious needs to be done," she wrote.

Her post has sparked widespread conversations online, with many Nigerians calling for increased education on child abuse, easier access to reporting channels, and tougher action against perpetrators.

Child abuse often thrives in silence. Many victims, especially children, may not understand that they are being abused until years later. This is why continuous education in schools, homes, religious centres, and communities is crucial. Every child deserves to know their rights, understand personal boundaries, and feel safe enough to speak up without fear or shame.
