I was wrong — Pastor Adeboye apologises for saying non-tithe payers won't make heaven

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has publicly apologised for previously teaching that Christians who do not pay tithes would not make it to heaven, admitting that the statement was incorrect and not supported by the Bible.

Speaking during a recent church programme, Adeboye acknowledged that he made a mistake and asked for forgiveness.

"I'm going to be apologizing for making a mistake, for saying that if you don't pay tithes, you might not make it to heaven. I'm sorry, that's wrong. That's not in the Bible."

He explained that while tithing remains a biblical principle, the Bible does not state that failing to pay tithes prevents a person from entering heaven.

Quoting Scripture, Adeboye said:

"What the Bible says is, 'Peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see God.'"

The respected cleric went on to explain that a person can be partly right yet still make an incorrect conclusion, using science as an illustration.

"Now, let me tell you, listen to me. You know, it is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I'll prove it to you. I mean, I'm a scientist, so I know that.

"For years we taught that light travels in straight lines. Is that correct? At least those of you who know a little bit of physics will say, 'Sure.' But later on we discovered it's not just straight as a road; light travels in waves."

His apology has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many commending the pastor for publicly correcting his earlier teaching, while others continue to debate the biblical interpretation of tithing.
