Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has paid an emotional tribute to his late best friend and colleague, Alex Ekubo, revealing that the actor's death has completely changed the way he sees life.
“On May 11th, I lost my best friend and brother, Alexx. Nothing prepares you for a loss like that,” he wrote.
Reflecting on their friendship, IK said they had shared countless dreams about growing old together, building businesses, making movies and raising their families, believing they still had plenty of time.
“Alexx and I spoke about everything. We laughed about growing old. We dreamed about businesses, movies we wanted to create, places we wanted to travel. We truly believed we had time. Neither of us imagined one of us would leave first.”
The actor admitted that he still struggles with the reality of his friend's death and often finds himself reaching for his phone to call Alex before remembering he is gone.
“There are still moments I instinctively reach for my phone, wanting to call you. Moments I hear something funny and think, ‘Alexx has to hear this.’ Then reality quietly reminds me... I can't.”
IK said the tragedy has taught him that life is fragile and urged people to stop postponing love, forgiveness and meaningful moments with those they care about.
“Tomorrow is a privilege, not a promise. Love people while they can still hear you. Tell them you appreciate them while they can still smile back. Forgive quickly. Check on your friends. Spend time with your family. Live intentionally.”
He concluded his tribute by thanking Alex for his friendship and describing it as one of the greatest honours of his life.
“Alexx... My brother... Thank you for every conversation, every laugh and every memory. Until we meet again, my brother, rest well. I love you. Always.”
