Ghanaian-Nigerian actress Nadia Buari has raised concerns over online impersonation after discovering that every variation of her name had already been claimed on WhatsApp's newly introduced username feature.
However, sharing her experience on social media, Nadia revealed that she was unable to register a username because all versions of her name had already been taken.
According to the actress, usernames such as "Nadia Buari," "Nadia S Buari," "NSB," and even "theNadiaBuari" were unavailable.
Describing the experience as both exhausting and unsettling, Nadia said it highlights how quickly fraudsters and impersonators move to exploit new digital features.
She warned that scammers are constantly looking for opportunities to deceive unsuspecting users by posing as public figures online.
The actress urged her followers to remain vigilant and verify identities before interacting with anyone claiming to be her or other celebrities on messaging platforms.
“If they are this fast with usernames, imagine what else they are capable of,” she cautioned.
Her warning comes just days after WhatsApp introduced the new username system, which is designed to let users communicate without revealing their phone numbers while adding an extra layer of privacy.
Nadia's experience has sparked conversations online, with many social media users expressing concern that impersonators may take advantage of the feature to scam unsuspecting victims unless stronger verification measures are introduced.
