Nigerian singer Portable has defended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her recent advice encouraging unemployed Nigerian women to embrace small-scale businesses such as frying akara and selling roasted corn.
Reacting during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Portable argued that Mrs Tinubu's comments were widely misunderstood.
According to the singer, there is nothing wrong with encouraging people to start small businesses, noting that many successful Nigerians were raised by parents who earned a living through petty trading.
"Nigerians misunderstood what Remi Tinubu meant. If you look at many wealthy people in this country, their mothers trained them by selling pepper and roasted corn," he said.
Portable also shared an experience from a recent trip to the United Kingdom, claiming he met roasted corn sellers who were financially successful.
"When I went to London, I even saw someone selling corn while using a Benz," he added.
The controversial singer maintained that small-scale businesses can be highly profitable and urged Nigerians not to look down on honest means of making a living.
