Ronaldo to retire from int’l football after World Cup – Sister reveal

Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Kátia Aveiro, has claimed that the Portugal captain will retire from international football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as his "last dance" with the national team.

Speaking with Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV ahead of Portugal's Round of 32 clash against Croatia on Thursday, Aveiro said she believes the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is nearing the end of his remarkable international career.

"From the information I have, from a reliable source… this is his last dance," she said.

She added, "I believe it's not today that they'll say goodbye, but it's coming soon. I strongly believe this is the farewell… I'm talking about the Portuguese national team."

The singer also encouraged fans to enjoy watching Ronaldo while they still can.

"Enjoy it while it lasts. It's ending soon… So enjoy it a lot because it will be difficult to find someone after 200 goals," she said.

However, Ronaldo stopped short of confirming his retirement plans after Portugal's 2,1 victory over Croatia in Toronto.

The 41 year old said he would only make a decision after discussing it with his family.

"My future isn't important right now. I'll have time, after winning or losing, I'll talk to my family and then make the best decision.

"I don't make decisions in the heat of the moment anymore. Now, everything is done calmly. It's about enjoying the present," Ronaldo said.

The Al Nassr forward has previously indicated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup would "definitely" be the final World Cup of his career.

Ronaldo scored Portugal's equaliser from the penalty spot against Croatia and, with his 10th World Cup goal, became Portugal's all time leading scorer in the tournament.

Portugal will now face Spain in the Round of 16 as Ronaldo continues his pursuit of another major international title before potentially bringing his legendary international career to an end.
