Rufai Oseni breaks down in tears on live TV over Nigeria's economic decline

Popular Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni became emotional and broke down in tears during a live broadcast on Friday while speaking about Nigeria's economic decline and the country's growing debt burden.

Speaking on the Arise TV Morning Show, an emotional Oseni reflected on how Nigeria once had a strong economy that enabled it to lend money to international financial institutions, lamenting how the country has now become heavily dependent on borrowing.

"I cried for Nigeria this morning. Let me read something to you and show why I sometimes raise my voice about this country."

He recalled that on December 24, 1974, Nigeria signed an agreement under which it provided $240 million in net resources to the World Bank and also lent $120 million to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"We were lending money to the World Bank to support development in other countries. We also lent $120 million to the International Monetary Fund, IMF. What happened to this country?"

Fighting back tears, Oseni questioned how Nigeria went from being a nation capable of lending money to global institutions to one grappling with mounting debt, attributing the decline to years of poor economic management and the looting of public resources.

His emotional outburst comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria's rising debt profile and the Federal Government's continued reliance on borrowing to finance public spending.
