Several people are feared trapped after a multi-storey student hostel reportedly collapsed on Sunday night in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, triggering an emergency rescue operation.
According to eyewitnesses, a loud bang was heard moments before the building came crashing down, sending students and residents into panic as they rushed to the scene.
One witness said cries for help could be heard from beneath the rubble immediately after the collapse, prompting residents, students and emergency responders to begin frantic efforts to rescue those trapped.
Videos circulating on social media showed volunteers working alongside rescue teams to clear debris in search of survivors.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not confirmed the number of people trapped, injured or killed, while the cause of the building collapse remains unknown.
