Spain have been crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a tense final played on Sunday, July 19.
The final remained goalless after 90 minutes despite several scoring opportunities, forcing the contest into extra time before Torres finally broke the deadlock.
Spain controlled much of the game and created the better chances but were repeatedly frustrated by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano MartÃnez, who produced a string of impressive saves to keep the defending champions in the contest.
However, MartÃnez's heroics were ultimately not enough, as Torres' extra-time strike proved decisive, handing La Roja a historic victory and their first World Cup triumph since 2010.
