Spain crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after beating Argentina 1-0

Spain have been crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a tense final played on Sunday, July 19.

Substitute Ferran Torres emerged as the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time to secure Spain's second FIFA World Cup title and end Argentina's hopes of retaining the trophy.

The final remained goalless after 90 minutes despite several scoring opportunities, forcing the contest into extra time before Torres finally broke the deadlock.

Spain controlled much of the game and created the better chances but were repeatedly frustrated by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who produced a string of impressive saves to keep the defending champions in the contest.

However, Martínez's heroics were ultimately not enough, as Torres' extra-time strike proved decisive, handing La Roja a historic victory and their first World Cup triumph since 2010.
