The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed the incident on Wednesday, saying it occurred on Tuesday.
According to him, the Fire Service received a distress call at about 3:28 p.m. from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into a pond.
“Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel from the Danbatta fire station immediately mobilised to the scene,” he said.
The agency said its personnel arrived at the location and found that Abdullahi had fallen into the pond.
The rescuers recovered him from the water in an unconscious state but he was later confirmed dead.
The deceased’s body was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The Kano State Fire Service expressed sympathy to the family and urged residents to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the current period.
“The Kano State Fire Service sympathises with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during this period,” the agency said.
