Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has overtaken fellow Afrobeats star Wizkid to become the best-selling African artist of all time in the modern streaming era.
According to global music analytics platform ChartMasters, Burna Boy now leads the continent with more than 14.46 million Equivalent Album Sales (EAS), a metric that combines album sales, streaming and digital consumption.
Wizkid follows closely behind with 14.4 million equivalent album units, making the two Nigerian stars the highest-selling African artists of the streaming era.
Despite Burna Boy's latest achievement, Algerian music icon Cheb Khaled remains Africa's highest-selling artist in overall career sales, with an estimated 81 million records sold worldwide, largely driven by traditional physical album sales.
Burna Boy also reached another major milestone by becoming the first African artist to surpass 800 million monthly listeners on YouTube Music, further cementing his status as one of the continent's most commercially successful global music stars.
