Hull City owner blasts Real Madrid over Carlos Espi transfer claim

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has publicly criticised Real Madrid over claims that the English club tried to sign striker Carlos Espi before his move to the Spanish giants, describing the reports as "fake stories."

Reports had suggested that newly promoted Premier League side Hull City were interested in signing the 21-year-old forward as they looked to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

However, Espi completed a permanent move to Real Madrid on Thursday in a deal reportedly worth more than £21 million.

Reacting to reports that Hull almost signed the striker, Ilicali dismissed the claims in a post on X, insisting the club never made an offer.

He wrote: "Guys, your club is big enough without making fake stories about Hull City. We never made any offer, we wish him the best in Real Madrid."

Espi arrived at Real Madrid after an outstanding campaign with Levante, where he scored 13 goals in 27 appearances and helped the club secure the 2024-25 La Liga 2 title.

The young striker is expected to compete for opportunities alongside stars including Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Endrick, especially with Gonzalo García reportedly close to joining Fulham.

Meanwhile, Hull City have already strengthened their squad this summer with the signings of goalkeeper Jack Butland, midfielder Hidemasa Morita, left-back Matt Targett and defensive midfielder Oscar Zambrano as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.
