‘I can take a 10-year break and still sell out 50 arenas’ — Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he could take a lengthy break from music and still return to massive success, saying he does not intend to remain at the top of the industry indefinitely.

Speaking during a podcast session, the singer said he would not want to still be competing with younger artistes when he reaches 40, despite his deep passion for music.

“Music is my blood but I’m not going to be 40 still dragging with guys in their 20s. Jay-Z took a break and he is doing his thing,” Davido said.

The ‘Fall’ hitmaker said his established music catalogue would allow him to step away from the industry for years and still attract a large audience if he decides to return.

“I can take a 10yrs break and still do a 50-arena tour. I have the catalogue. I might decide not to make another song for the rest of my life, and nobody is touching my catalogue,” he said.

Davido also noted that musicians should be able to use their success in music as a springboard into other areas rather than relying solely on recording and performing.

“All I am saying is there are other things music should be able to help you branch out into,” he added.
