Atiya reportedly passed away on Thursday morning, with news of his death announced by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), in an Instagram post.
Oloketuyi wrote:
“Dimbo Atiya is dead. The top Nollywood director passed on this morning. Details later.”
Reacting to the heartbreaking news, actor Mofe Duncan also expressed shock and sadness over the filmmaker’s passing.
Sharing a photo of Atiya, Duncan wrote:
“God no, not Dimbo. I’m devastated. One of the greatest minds of the entertainment industry.”
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of Atiya’s death had not been disclosed.
His passing has continued to trigger tributes from colleagues and others within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
