The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the rescue followed intelligence received by the National Central Bureau (NCB)-INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, on August 26, 2026.
The victims were identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, both Colombian nationals.
According to Iniedu, the women were deceived into travelling to Nigeria, where they were allegedly held against their will and had their travel documents confiscated by suspected Chinese nationals who are currently at large.
“The victims were fraudulently lured to Nigeria, held against their will, and had their travel documents confiscated by certain Chinese nationals who are currently at large,” he said.
Following the intelligence, police operatives launched a covert operation and located the hideout where the women were allegedly being held in Lagos.
The victims were safely rescued on the same day, while the suspected traffickers reportedly fled after noticing the approaching officers.
Iniedu said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest all members of the suspected trafficking syndicate.
He added that the rescued women were in safe custody and receiving the necessary support from the authorities.
According to him, the Colombian Embassy in Accra is collaborating with INTERPOL to provide hotel accommodation for the victims and secure emergency travel documents to facilitate their safe return to Bogotá.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting everyone in the country and strengthening collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to combat cross-border crimes.
