The highly anticipated "Chaos In The Ring" showdown, held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, ended in dramatic fashion after Portable refused to continue following the opening round, leading officials to declare Okocha the winner.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his management, Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, the singer expressed regret over the incident and apologised to everyone affected by the outcome.
“We sincerely apologise to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the entire event team, our fans, friends, family, and everyone who came out to support Portable at tonight’s celebrity boxing event.
“We understand the disappointment caused by the outcome of the fight and by Portable’s decision to step away after the first round. While emotions can run high in moments like these, we respectfully ask everyone to respect his decision and perspective,” the statement read.
The rematch was organised after Okocha challenged the outcome of their first celebrity boxing encounter in 2023, which Portable won, and activated a rematch clause.
Friday's contest began with both men exchanging punches before the fight descended into confusion when Portable exited the ring and declined to continue. Officials subsequently awarded victory to Okocha.
Although Portable has yet to explain why he abandoned the bout, the result handed Charles Okocha revenge nearly three years after losing their first meeting.
