“She should have gone on her knees” — Eucharia Anunobi apologises to Tony Elumelu on behalf of young lady who addressed him by his first name

Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has apologised to businessman Tony Elumelu on behalf of the young lady who addressed him by his first name during a public event.

The actress made the apology in a video while reacting to the controversy that followed the interaction between Elumelu and the young lady, who was reportedly asking a question at the event.

Anunobi said the young woman should have immediately accepted Elumelu’s correction and apologised instead of continuing with her question.

According to her, the incident was a matter of respect and an example of the need for Nigerians and Africans to honour people appropriately.

“She should have immediately gone on her knees and said she’s sorry to Sir Tony Elumelu. I am sorry on her behalf. She should have shown respect,” Anunobi said.

Appealing directly to Elumelu, the actress said she was speaking on behalf of the young lady and urged him to forgive her for what she described as her failure to show proper respect.

“Sir Tony Elumelu, on behalf of that young lady, fathers and mothers, I say I am sorry on her behalf. She should have knelt down and said she is sorry. She did not show respect,” she said.

Anunobi also urged Nigerians to learn from the incident and understand the importance of showing respect and honour to whom they are due.

“I am pleading on her behalf. I say, sir, forgive her,” she added.

She concluded by advising the young lady to learn from the incident, saying, “Please, young lady, do better. Do better.”

Anunobi further described wisdom as “the rightful application of understanding in whatever environment you find yourself,” adding that she was seeking to awaken people to their “new reality.”
