82-year-old man dies after fight over sunlounger at Greek beach

An 82-year-old man has died after getting into a physical altercation with a 76-year-old man over a sunlounger at a beach near Athens, Greece.

The incident occurred at Vouliagmeni beach, where a disagreement over the use of sunloungers reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation involving other people.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one eyewitness telling Kathimerini that the screaming could be heard from the other end of the beach.

The 76-year-old man was reportedly arrested following the incident, while a 21-year-old woman who was with him was also detained before being released. Witnesses told Ta Nea that the woman had a bloodied and swollen face.

During the altercation, the 82-year-old man collapsed. Reports said people at the scene performed CPR and used a defibrillator before an ambulance arrived.

He was subsequently taken to hospital, where he later died.

Another witness said the victim appeared to have reserved a sunlounger while waiting for other people, which may have triggered the initial disagreement.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the exact cause of the man’s death.
