‘BBNaija no longer commands conversation like before’ — Ubi Franklin

Music executive Ubi Franklin has said the Big Brother Naija reality show no longer commands public conversation the way it did in the past, despite remaining a successful brand.

Franklin made the observation in a post shared on his X account, where he compared the reality show to a major music artiste who remains successful but no longer dominates public conversation as before.

“Big Brother Naija reminds me of a massive artist who is still successful, still performing and still has fans, but no longer commands the conversation like before,” he wrote.

According to him, BBNaija remains a major brand but has lost some of the cultural relevance it previously enjoyed.

“That’s where Big Brother is today. It’s still a big brand, but the cultural relevance isn’t what it used to be,” Franklin said.

He argued that continued success alone may not be enough to maintain the show’s relevance, urging its organisers to reconsider their strategy.

“Sometimes being successful isn’t enough—you have to go back to the drawing board, re-strategize, reposition and find a way to become relevant again,” he added.
