Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has advised people to consider forgiving a cheating spouse if the person is genuinely remorseful and shows signs of change.
The actress shared her thoughts while discussing how couples should handle infidelity, stressing that cheating is wrong but that people should also assess the circumstances before deciding whether to end a relationship.
“If someone cheats once, should they be forgiven? I would say definitely yes, if they are remorseful and if they show signs of change,” she said.
However, Omotola questioned whether a repeatedly unfaithful spouse should also be forgiven, urging people to understand the reasons behind the behaviour.
“Should someone forgive a repeatedly cheating spouse? Why are they cheating?” she asked.
The actress said people have become increasingly impatient, adding that while infidelity is a serious wrongdoing, couples sometimes need to step back and assess the situation before making decisions.
“The sin is there and the sin is very, very bad. We already know that. But then sometimes you need to sit back and assess the situation,” she said.
She further advised people to consider whether cheating is the only problem in the relationship and whether the person is otherwise a good partner before deciding what to do.
“You have to weigh your options and say, look, for me as a person, is this something I want to deal with? Does this matter to me, or am I angry because of what people will see?” she added.
