The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced his arrest on Wednesday, listing him among what it described as the “worst of the worst illegal aliens” as the Donald Trump administration intensifies its immigration enforcement efforts.
According to DHS, Adebowale is a Nigerian national who was convicted of larceny and money laundering in Massachusetts.
Court documents show that Adebowale was indicted for allegedly stealing more than $1,200 from a person over the age of 60 and for money laundering.
His motion to dismiss the indictment was denied, and he was subsequently convicted following a jury trial at a superior court.
Following his arrest by ICE, Adebowale now faces possible deportation from the United States.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin said ICE officers had arrested several individuals wanted for serious offences as part of the administration’s ongoing immigration crackdown.
“Yesterday, ICE law enforcement arrested murderers, pedophiles, stalkers, and other dangerous illegal aliens,” Mullin said.
