The cleric made the remarks while speaking about couples who create WhatsApp groups to seek financial contributions from friends and family to fund their weddings.
According to Okeke, a man who needs others to contribute money before he can get married may not be prepared for the responsibilities that come with marriage.
He said, “You are getting married, and then you are putting us in a group to support you. If you are not old enough to raise money for marriage, you don’t need to marry.”
The prophet further stated, “If you need us to support you to marry, you should not marry, you are not fit to marry.”
Okeke also warned men against creating WhatsApp groups specifically to solicit money for their weddings, insisting that they should be able to shoulder the financial burden themselves.
He added, “If you create a WhatsApp group for us to support you to marry, you are not fit for marriage. If you cannot be able to raise money to marry a woman and you need our contribution, you won’t like it, you are not fit for marriage.”
The cleric also argued that experiencing the financial challenges and sacrifices involved in getting married could make a man more willing to endure difficulties that may arise in the marriage.
“You need to go through the marriage pain so that when your wife say you’re a fool, you will endure her, because you know if you divorce her, you know what you go through to marry another one,” he said.
