A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after comparing the customer service she received from male and female service providers, claiming that women often display more attitude when dealing with customers.
In a video shared on social media, the woman said she was “trying her possible best to be a very good feminist” but felt compelled to speak about what she described as repeated poor customer service from women.
According to her, she recently contacted a male customer service agent who attended to her “like a normal human being,” unlike some female agents she had previously dealt with.
She said her frustration was not based on a single experience, claiming that she had encountered similar behaviour several times in restaurants, shops and other businesses.
The woman complained about the attitude of some female waitresses, alleging that they sometimes behave as though customers were disturbing them rather than patronising their businesses.
She also recounted an experience at a woman’s shop where she went to buy a pair of glasses.
According to her, similar glasses were being sold elsewhere for around ₦2,000 to ₦2,500, but the shop attendant allegedly told her the glasses cost ₦7,500.
She said that after questioning the price, the woman allegedly stopped responding to her until she eventually left the shop.
“Like, what kind of attitude is that? Like, if I did in my normal head, I say I go ever enter your shop again?” she said.
The woman argued that good customer service should be an important part of running a business, regardless of whether the business owner or worker is male or female.
She concluded by maintaining that, based on her personal experiences, she had found it difficult to encounter female business owners and customer service workers who she felt provided satisfactory customer service.
