Priest k!lled, four injured in knife att@ck at Catholic abbey in Poland

A priest has been killed and four other people injured in a knife attack at the grounds of a Catholic abbey in Jarosław, south-east Poland.

Polish police said five people, including four men and one woman, were stabbed during the attack on Thursday morning.

A 31-year-old Ukrainian man was arrested in connection with the incident, while police have launched an investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the attack.

Reports in Polish media said the suspect first injured a priest at a nearby café before allegedly attacking four other people inside the abbey grounds.

The name of the priest who was killed has not been publicly released.

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said psychological support was being provided to those affected by the incident.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the suspect would face the full severity of Polish law if found responsible.

President Karol Nawrocki described the attack as an incident that had “shaken us all” and called for a firm response from the state.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed shock over the incident and said the perpetrator must be held fully responsible under the law.

“We are shocked by this evil,” Zelensky said, adding that Ukraine was counting on a quick and thorough investigation into all the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Ukrainian embassy in Poland also condemned the incident, urging people not to allow the tragedy to fuel hatred or further violence.

The embassy said responsibility for the crime should be determined solely through the law.
