The new date is more than two weeks earlier than the previously projected February 20, 2028 release date for the 56-year-old music mogul, who is serving his 50-month federal sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Combs’ projected release date has been revised several times since he began serving his sentence in October 2025. His release was initially projected for June 2028 before being moved forward to April, February and January, with subsequent adjustments eventually placing it at February 20, 2028.
The reason for the repeated changes has not been disclosed. The Bureau of Prisons has previously said it does not comment on individual inmates’ confinement conditions, release plans or reasons for changes to release dates due to privacy, safety and security concerns.
Combs was sentenced after a federal jury found him guilty in 2025 on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.
The latest adjustment comes amid reports that Combs was involved in an altercation with another inmate at Fort Dix. The two reportedly pushed each other before punches were exchanged, prompting prison guards to intervene. Combs was subsequently reported to have been placed in solitary confinement, although prison officials did not confirm the incident.
His representatives have previously denied claims that he violated prison rules, saying he remained focused on sobriety, self-discipline and personal growth.
For now, the Bureau of Prisons lists February 5, 2028, as Combs’ projected release date, although the date could still change.
