Everton owners open to selling club to investors with bigger ambitions

Everton owners open to selling club to investors with bigger ambitions

The Friedkin Group (TFG), owners of Premier League club Everton, are reportedly open to selling their controlling stake to investors capable of taking the club to the next level, less than two years after completing their takeover.

The American group acquired 99.5 per cent of Everton in 2024 in a deal believed to be worth more than £400 million, bringing an end to Farhad Moshiri’s turbulent tenure as the club’s owner.

In a statement, TFG confirmed that it was exploring new investment options, including the potential sale of a controlling interest in the Merseyside club.

“The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest,” the statement read.

The group explained that its immediate priority upon taking over was to address Everton’s financial uncertainty, provide stability and support the club’s long-term future, including the completion of its new stadium.

“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton,” TFG added.

Led by chairman Dan Friedkin, the group had previously outlined plans to build a sustainable and successful future for Everton. However, its leadership came under scrutiny during the summer transfer window.

TFG, which also owns Italian club Roma and French side AS Cannes, is reportedly willing to relinquish control only to an investor who can provide the resources and ambition needed to move Everton forward.

Everton have finished 13th in the Premier League in both seasons since the takeover, following several years of struggling to avoid relegation.
