Kano phone traders move against Chinese nationals over alleged sale of cheaper phones

Phone traders in Kano have reportedly threatened to drive Chinese nationals out of the market over allegations that they sell phones directly to customers at lower prices, sparking concerns over competition between local traders and foreign business operators.

In a video circulating online, some traders were heard warning the Chinese nationals to stop conducting business in the market and its surrounding areas.

“We don’t want to see any of you in this market or even in this area, we don’t want to see you,” one of the traders said.

Another trader was also heard declaring, “We don’t want to see any China person coming to this market and doing business. We have our own organization and our own time.”

The incident has drawn attention to reported tensions between local phone traders and Chinese nationals, who are accused of selling phones directly to customers at cheaper rates.

However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, the identities of those involved and the reactions of the Chinese nationals have not been independently confirmed.
