Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has criticised Portugal following her brother’s decision to leave the national team camp ahead of the country’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Aveiro expressed her frustration in a post on Instagram, arguing that Ronaldo deserved greater respect and that the Portugal national team needed better organisation.
“CR7 deserved more respect. The national team deserved more structure,” she wrote.
She also criticised Portuguese journalists, accusing them of engaging in speculation instead of providing what she described as competent coverage.
“Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation,” Aveiro added.
The singer and entrepreneur went further to criticise the Portuguese public, accusing them of being envious, disdainful and ignorant.
“As for the Portuguese people, well… they don’t deserve to have the best at anything. We are envious, disdainful, and ignorant,” she wrote.
Her comments came after Ronaldo left the Portugal camp on Wednesday and returned to Madrid.
The Al-Nassr forward will miss Portugal’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Norway following his departure from the squad.
Aveiro’s remarks have since drawn attention online, particularly her criticism of the Portuguese public and media over the treatment of her brother.
