The arrest was reported by the US-based Daily Caller in an exclusive report published on Friday, which identified the suspect as Adam, a resident of Plateau State.
According to the report, Adam was allegedly the secret leader of the Fulani Ethnic Militia (FEM), a group the publication linked to attacks in the region.
A former US intelligence officer with expertise in Islamist terrorism also reportedly confirmed the arrest to the Daily Caller.
The report alleged that photographs provided by a whistleblower showed the suspect had met with Nigerian military leaders and received high-value gifts from them. It also claimed that a serving senator had previously intervened to secure his release from custody.
The operation that led to the reported arrest was carried out on September 12 at the suspect’s compound in Plateau State, where he was reportedly serving as a prominent Fulani community leader.
The allegations against the suspect have not been established in court.
