A five-month pregnant woman has appealed to a Sharia Court in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State to show leniency to her husband, Ladanai Salisu, after he admitted beating her.
The case was heard before Malam Mubashshir Abdulsalam, with the prosecuting police officer, Corporal Saifullahi Nasidi, presenting the charge against Salisu.
After the defendant pleaded guilty, his wife confirmed the incident but appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy.
She told the court that she still had sympathy for her husband, adding that they had three children together.
“I still have sympathy for my husband, and we have three children together,” she reportedly told the court.
In its ruling, the court ordered Salisu to purchase medication for his wife and sentenced him to one month in prison or a fine of ₦10,000.
The court also warned him against repeating the offence.
