A 34-year-old teacher in New Jersey, Laura Caron, is facing up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to s+xually ab¥sing her 13-year-old student and having his child.
Caron entered the guilty plea to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with s+xual conduct on Wednesday at a courthouse in Cape May, New Jersey.
Under the plea agreement, she faces up to five years in prison, will lose her teaching licence, register as a s+x offender and remain under parole supervision for life, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
She will also undergo an evaluation to determine whether her behaviour was repetitive or compulsive, a finding that could affect her sentence. She is expected to be sentenced on January 8.
Caron was charged in January 2025 after investigators discovered that she had s+xually ab¥sed the boy between 2016 and 2020, when he was between 11 and 15 years old. Their child was born in 2019, when the boy was 13 and Caron was 28.
The case reportedly came to light after the boy’s father noticed a resemblance between Caron’s daughter and his son. DNA evidence subsequently linked the boy to the child.
However, in an interview with the Daily Mail in February 2025, the victim said he did not consider himself groomed or manipulated and did not want Caron imprisoned.
“They need to drop all charges. I wasn’t groomed or r@ped or manipulated by her. She never initiated anything. I started everything. If it was up to me, she wouldn’t have been in jail,” he said.
Expressing his affection for Caron, he added: “I love her with all my heart. She was there for me and my family.”
