The Federal Government has suspended the proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
According to the ministry, the earlier directive announcing the proposed fee adjustment, dated June 18, 2026, has been withdrawn to pave the way for a broader review process.
The ministry acknowledged the concerns and constructive feedback received from members of the public regarding access to quality education.
It stated that the suspension reflects the government's commitment to engaging stakeholders and ensuring that any future decision on examination fees takes into account the interests of students, parents, schools and other key stakeholders.
