The convict, Kwame Ti-Zaaeku, was found guilty by the Lawra Circuit Court in Ghana's Upper West Region after investigators established that he repeatedly abused his daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period.
Police investigations also revealed that he threatened to kill the teenager if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
Following a full trial on Friday, July 24, 2026, the court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, convicted Ti-Zaaeku on charges of incest and threat of death.
He was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment with hard labour for incest and 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour for threatening the victim's life. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
In addition to the prison term, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide the survivor with counselling and psychosocial support to aid her recovery.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their professionalism, which led to the successful conviction.
The command also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual and domestic abuse so that victims can receive protection and offenders can be brought to justice.
