Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called on the United Nations (UN) and international human rights organisations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
According to Makinde, the abduction should not be treated as an ordinary security incident, insisting that the facts surrounding the case must be thoroughly examined.
“I call on the appropriate international human rights and accountability mechanisms, including those within the United Nations system, to closely examine the facts surrounding these abductions,” the governor said.
Makinde stressed that he was making the request in his capacity as the Governor of Oyo State, adding that the incident deserves global attention and accountability.
The governor's call comes after the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and their teachers, as authorities continue efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
