Iyabo Ojo reveals why she gave ex-husband a major role at daughter’s wedding

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has explained why she chose to give her ex-husband a prominent role during their daughter's wedding despite their past differences.

Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress said her decision was motivated by her desire to break unhealthy family patterns and ensure her children enjoy a happier future.

According to Iyabo Ojo, she believes some family cycles can continue across generations if they are not intentionally broken.

"There's something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe it. Christians also. And I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it."

She revealed that both of her parents separated while she was growing up, and she was determined not to allow her children to experience the same family pattern.

"Every mistake they had made, that I have made, my children will not make it."

The actress explained that she deliberately put aside her personal feelings toward her former husband for the sake of their daughter, saying her priority was to ensure the bride entered marriage with peace and unity.

"I had to put aside what I felt, my differences, and clear her path. That's why I said I have paid the price for her to succeed, for her to be happy in her marriage."

Iyabo Ojo also emphasized that her ex-husband had every right to be present and actively participate in the wedding because he remains their daughter's father.

"Her father is not dead, he's alive. So why can't he be there?"

She added that the issues between her and her former husband should never affect their daughter, insisting that their failed relationship was separate from his responsibilities as a father.

"He didn't wrong her. Me and him fell out. That has nothing to do with her. I made the choice to marry him, right? So whatever it is that is going on between me and him, is between me and him. It shouldn't extend to her."

Her comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many praising her maturity and commitment to putting her daughter's happiness ahead of personal differences.
