A Nigerian man has shared his emotional story of being reunited with his son after 17 years, alleging that the child's mother kept him away from him and falsely told the boy that his father was dead.
According to him, when his son was 10 years old and secretly came to visit him, the child's mother reported him to the anti-kidnapping squad, accusing him of abducting the boy.
"For 17 years, this lady denied me my son. She told him he didn't have a father and raised him alone. When he ran to my house at 10, she had me arrested by the anti-kidnapping squad."
He further alleged that a similar incident occurred when the boy visited him again a few years later, resulting in another arrest.
The man said the situation eventually ended up in court after his son, at age 17, refused to return to his mother's home and insisted on living with him.
According to him, the court confirmed through evidence, including a DNA test, that he was the boy's biological father, granted him full custody, and ordered that his son adopt his surname.
He also claimed that the child's mother demanded ₦5 million as compensation for raising the boy alone, but the court declined the request.
Advising single mothers, the man urged them not to deliberately prevent children from having a relationship with their fathers, stressing that a father's presence cannot be replaced by money.
His claims have since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating parental rights, child custody and the importance of both parents in a child's upbringing.
