Afrobeats star and rapper Zlatan Ibile has gone viral after correcting a master of ceremonies (MC) who referenced the “City Boy Movement” while presenting him with an award at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY).
As the presenter made the remark, Zlatan immediately interrupted him and distanced himself from the statement.
Presenter: “This award is on behalf of the City Boy Movement.”
Zlatan replied: “Bro, I don’t understand what you’re saying. No be City Boy movement we come do for here.”
His response was met with loud cheers from the audience, with many students applauding the singer for steering the moment back to the purpose of the event.
The video has since gone viral across social media platforms, generating mixed reactions from Nigerians.
While many praised Zlatan for avoiding political associations during the ceremony, others argued that the MC may have only been making a light-hearted joke and did not intend to politicise the occasion.
