An updated version of the tour poster shared online no longer includes the January 13 Lagos stop, which had appeared on the original schedule. The revised itinerary now lists only Cape Town on January 16 and Johannesburg on January 19 as the African dates.
The development comes after growing backlash from some Nigerians following reports of renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
Several public figures, including activist VeryDarkMan, reality TV star Pere Egbi, and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, had opposed Tyla's planned Lagos concert, with some calling on the Federal Government to deny South African artistes entry into Nigeria under the principle of reciprocity.
The controversy also intensified after reports that Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and her team were allegedly denied South African visas, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled performance in the country.
As of the time of filing this report, Tyla and her management have not issued an official statement explaining why the Lagos show was removed from the tour schedule.
