Speaking during an appearance on the Vibes Podcast, the award-winning singer said society often celebrates people who rise from poverty to wealth but rarely acknowledges those born into privilege who go on to create their own legacy.
According to Davido, earning recognition outside the shadow of a billionaire parent is just as challenging as achieving success from humble beginnings.
"They love the grass-to-grace story, the young boy that was poor and became rich. But which other billionaire's child do you know in the world, not talking about Africa, that has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money? You can't count, you can't name one apart from me," he said.
The singer noted that while his family's wealth opened conversations about his background, it was his talent, consistency and years of hard work that established him as one of Africa's biggest music stars.
Davido, the son of billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, has enjoyed over a decade of success in the music industry, releasing multiple hit songs, selling out international arenas and winning numerous awards while building a global Afrobeats brand.
